MC / hosting / welcome /interviewing tips

[under construction]

If MC'ing an event, or delivering a welcome or interview, here's some tips"

Welcomes/MCing

  • Be lively. Have energy, especially as you start.
  • It's not about you. Welcomes are about the audience. Don't overly brag or talk about yourself.
  • Respect God. Have some fun but nothing blasphemous.
  • Respect the speaker/musicians/presenters. Have fun but don't belittle them.
  • Respect the audience. Have some fun but don't insult or tell off the audience.
  • Ease the Audience. Not only don't force them to do anything that may make them feel silly, Don't scare them with the thought that you're going down a path where that could happen. They don't' know your plans. eg, a roving mike can be terrifying - but still a great segment - so make it clear you'll only talk to people who raise their hand.
  • Respect other events/locations. Don't claim your event/location/church is better then others.
  • Include Live streamers. Include meaningful acknowledgements or mentions of those watching
  • Hit the topic. Know what the theme is and include some relevant content, even if abstract.
  • Mix it up. Be innovative and not cliche.
