Who here can say the word "unity"?
Who else thinks they can?
Can you all say it together?
Who can spell "unity"?
Anyone else think they can spell it?
Can you all spell it together?
Who can describe what unity means?
[When you are united, or joined as a whole.]
Who thinks thy know what the opposite of being unified is? [being Divided]
What is unity good for?
Let's try some things:
[order kids in a line sitting on ground, lay out blocks in front of them all]
I need a fast runner. you need to collect all these blocks and put them into the basket, but you can only pick up one at a time. The rest of us will count how long it takes you.
[next]
Let's reset and try again, this time we will unify and do it all together, everyone can help, but you can all only take one at a time, but you can all go at the same time.
Was that faster?
When we are unified we can often do thing faster than by ourselves - that is one benefit.
Let's try something else:
What's you favorite sport? Stand up and make a pose of that sport. I need some more, who like a different sport? stand up and pose.
When I say go, pretend you're playing your sport with the person next to you, but they are playing their sport.
GO
That doesn't work very well does it?
A another benefit of unity is we can have more fun when we team up together
Let's try something else.
I need everyone in the audience to think of their favorite christian song. It could be a hymn, or a song from their childhood, and a current song
On 3, i need you all to start singing your song nice and lougly so the kids can hear you!
1 2 3
Oh that sounded terrible, didn't it! Is'nt it good, that when we usually sing in church we unify and all sing the same song at the same time. so Unity can also make things more pleasant.
One more, who here could sing a song for me? [then ask a shy person who didn't put their hand up] Would you like to sing for us? No? What about f we got everyone here to sing with you, would that be less scary?
Stand up, Kids, everyone on 3, audience included sing if you're happy and you know it. l 2 3
Wow that was great. So when we have unity things are less scary too.
Where do you think it is good to have unity?
[Sports team, music, with family, school or work, church.]
Usually life is better when everyone works together.
Sometimes it might not be exactly what you want, and you might need to give up your favorite option to stay unified and keep things peaceful. Like if everyone is playing basketball and you wanted to play foot ball, you'll have more fun playing basketball with everyone else then football by yourself. So usually, not always but usually it's worth trying to stay unified, even at church.
Thanks for listening. On the count of 3 you can all call out "unity" and leave all together and go back to your seats. 1 2 3 "Unity!"
